I guess someone read my plea after the Twins' most recent game. With 2 outs and a man on second in the eighth inning, Jose Mijares was poised to pitch to Luis Valbuena. Then Ryan Garko was sent in to pinch hit for him, and any reason for Mijares to still be in the game evaporated; Garko, for his career, has an OPS 150 points higher against lefties than against righties. The situation was almost exactly the same as in Sunday's match versus Tampa Bay.
This time, however, Gardy chose to bring in Joe Nathan for the first time this season with a runner on base. While it looked like he completely overthrew the first two pitches (including a wild pitch), he got Garko out to end the inning. And after that, he came back and finished the game for the save.
See--it works!

what works? By the way, (I know this has nothing to do with twins) I watched Seinfeld yesterday... can you guess which one? one tuck and one no-tuck!

"It works" was referring to bringing Joe Nathan in before the ninth inning and/or with runners on base.
ReplyDeleteOh, and for the Seinfeld episode: the one where Jerry and George go to California for Jerry's appearance on a TV show and Kramer is in California for his own reason, and is later arrested as the Smog Strangler. I think it's called "The Trip" and its a 2-part episode.
