Joes and Bros

The first game of the World Series was played yesterday, as Josh Beckett cruised to another win and the Red Sox bats set a few World Series records in a 13-1 victory over Colorado. Dustin Pedroia led the game off with a first pitch home run and the Red Sox never looked back.

But this post will focus on the Twins. There were a few small pieces of news picked up in the last day or two.
  • The Twins have all but picked up Joe Nathan's option for the 2008 season; apparently, both sides are just waiting for paperwork to make it official. There's not much to this as I think it was pretty much a unanimous decision among everyone that his option should be picked up.
  • As it turns out, Joe Mauer will not be having surgery for his hernia. He will most likely take a couple of weeks off before resuming any sort of training program, but he will not need surgery.
  • Speaking of Joe Mauer, his brother, Jack Mauer, was recently named the manager of the GCL Twins. He had already spent a few previous years working as a coach for the GCL affiliate.

Be sure to check back for updates on the World Series and afterwards, which marks the real start of the offseason.
